The Proteas were always a dark horse but never won any World Cup, In the last edition of the T20 World Cup in 2022, they had a shocking defeat in the hands of the Netherlands that resulted in the knockout of the semi-final race.

South Africa have announced their 15-member squad with two reserve players.

South Africa 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup Squad

Aiden Markram will lead the Proteas in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and Rob Walter will be the coach.

South Africa Squad is:

Aiden Markram (c), David Miller, Gerald Coetzee, Bjorn Fortuin, Reeza Hendricks, Quinton de Kock, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Ottniel Baartman, Keshav Maharaj, Anrich Nortje, Ryan Rickelton, Tabraiz Shamsi, Kagiso Rabada, Tristan Stubbs. 

Reserve Members: Nandre Burger and Lungi Ngidi.

Quinton de Kock and Anrich Nortje will make their comeback after being excluded from Cricket South Africa’s central contract list recently. The opening batsman, De Kock announced his retirement from both Test and ODIs cricket in 2022 and 2023.

Ryan Rickelton and Ottniel Baartman will be the two uncapped players who will play their first World Cup.

 “All teams are allowed to make changes to their squad till 25 May without getting any approval from anybody, after that they need to get approval from ICC’s event technical committee to make any changes.”

Players to Watch in this World Cup from South Africa:

  • Ryan Rickelton, a young aggressive batsman, was in the limelight with his batting display in the SA20 tournament scoring 530 runs with an average of 58.88 and a strike rate of 173.77 for MI Cape Town.
  • Ottniel Baartman, a bowler with depth. He recently took 18 wickets in 8 matches for Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 tournament.
  •  Heinrich Klaasen, an aggressive wicketkeeper-batsman can change the game anytime.
  • Gerald Coetzee, a young all-rounder.
  • Tristan Stubbs, a promising attacking batsman can give major blows in the end overs.
