Paris 2024: Top 10 Oldest World Records by Women Athletes Yet to be Broken

All sports fans are eagerly waiting for the Paris 2024 Olympics, and it will be interesting to watch new world records created.

We have covered the oldest world records in the Men’s Track & Field category that have been there for decades in Part 1 of this two-part series. In part 2 of this series, we will share our view on women’s records.

We have gathered the top oldest world records still standing unbroken in Women’s Track & Field games events. Let us explore the list of oldest records still standing tall in this two-part series. Everyone will be excited about the possibility of surpassing these records in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

1.400m(1985)

Marita Koch from Germany holds the current World Record of 47.6s in the 400m race achieved in 1985 at Bruce Stadium, Canberra, Australia. She was the 1980 Olympic Champion in 400m in Moscow.

2.800m (1985)

Jarmila Kratochvilova from Czechoslovakia holds the current World Record of 1:53:28 timing achieved in 1985 in Munich, Germany. She was the 1983 World Champions in 400m and 800m and also won the silver medal in the 400m event in the 1980 Moscow Olympics.

3.Shot Put (1987)

Natalys Venediktoyna Lisovskaya from Russia holds the current World Record of 22.63m in the Shot Put achieved in 1987 in Moscow, Russia. She was the Olympic Champion in the 1988 Seoul Olympics and World Champion in 1987 Rome World Championship.

4.100m, 200m (1988)

Florence Delorez Griffith Joyner, known as Flo-Jo from the United States was the fastest woman ever. She holds the World Record in 100m and 200m achieved in 1988. She achieved a 100m race, the best timing of 10:49s in Indianapolis, IN, USA, and a 200m timing of 21.34 at Olympic Stadium, Jamsil, Seoul, Republic of Korea.  She was the 1988 Olympic Champion with three gold medals in 100m, 200m, and 4X100.

5.Long Jump (1988)

Galina Valentinovna Chistyakova from the Soviet Union holds the current World Record of 7.52m in the Long Jump achieved in 1988 at Leningrad, Soviet Union. She won a bronze medal in the 1988 Seoul Olympics and became the 1989 World Indoor Champion.

6.Discus Throw(1988)

Gabriele Reinsch from Germany holds the current World Record of 76.80m in the Discus Throw achieved in 1988 in Germany. She represented East Germany in the discus throw field event in the 1988 Olympics.

7.Heptathlon (1988)

Jacqueline Joyner Kersee from the United States holds the current World Record of 7291 points in the Heptathlon achieved in 1988 at the Olympic Stadium, Jamsil, Seoul, Republic of Korea. She is ranked as one of the greatest in the long jump and heptathlon. She was the 1988 Seoul Olympic Champion in both categories and the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Champion in Heptathlon.

8.4x400m Relay (1988)

Soviet Union team holds the current World Record of 3:15:18 timing in the 4X400 Relay achieved in 1988 at Olympic Stadium, Jamsil, Seoul, Republic of Korea. Tatyana Ledovskaya, Olga Nazarova, Mariya Pinigina, and Olga Bryzgina were part of that team.

9.3000m (1993)

Wang Junxia from China holds the current World Record of 8:06:13 in the 3000m race achieved in 1993 in Beijing, China. She was the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Champion in the 5000m and won a silver medal in the 10000m.

10.1000m (1996)

Svetlana Aleksandrovna Masterkova from Russia holds the current World Record of 2:28:99 in the 1000m race achieved in 1996 at Brussels, Belgium. She was the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Champion in 800m and 1500m.
