Paris 2024: Top 10 Oldest World Records by Men Athletes Yet to be Broken

Paris Olympics is around the corner, and everyone must buckle their belts to enjoy this extravaganza in France where your favorite athletes will showcase their skills for the glory of the lifetime.

Records are made to be broken; it is just a matter of time. However, some have been there for decades, and it will be interesting to watch if somebody will eventually surpass them in this Paris Olympics.

Top 10 Oldest World Records by Men Athletes

Let us explore the list of oldest world records still standing tall in this two-part series. Part 1 will have the Top 10 Oldest unbroken World Records created by Men athletes.

1.Hammer Throw (1986)

Yuriy Georgiyevich Sadykh holds the current World Record of 86.74m in the Hammer Throw achieved in 1986 at Neckarstadion, Stuttgart, Germany. He represented the USSR, now Russia in the hammer throw and was the World and Olympic Champion. Nobody came near to this record after more than 3 decades.

2. Long Jump (1991)

Mike Anthony Powell from the United States holds the current World Record of 8.95m in the long jump achieved in 1991 at the World Championships in Athletics in Tokyo, Japan. This is regarded as one of the best achievements of any track and field athlete. It will be interesting to see anybody surpassing this record.

3.30,000m Race Walk (1992)

Maurizio Damilano from Italy holds the current World Record of 2:01:44.1h in the 30,000m Race Walk achieved in 1992 at Cuneo, Italy. He was the 1980 Olympic champion in 20km race walk.

4. High Jump (1993)

Javier Sotomayor Sanabria from Cuba holds the current World Record of 2.45m in the High Jump achieved in 1993 in Spain. He was the 1992 Olympic Champion in the High Jump. He is the only person to clear eight feet (2.44m) so far.

5.4×400 m Relay (1993)

Team USA holds the current World Record of 2:54:29 timing in the 4X400 m Relay achieved in 1993 in Germany. Andrew Valmon, Quincy Watts, Butch Reynolds, and Michael Johnson were part of the relay team. The USA team (Jerome Young, Antonio Pettigrew, Tyree Washington, Michael Johnson)) broke the record in 1998, however, the World Record was canceled when Antonio Pettigrew confessed of taking banned substances.

6. Triple Jump (1995)

Jonathan David Edwards from Great Britain holds the World Record of 18.29 m in the Triple Jump achieved in 1995 at Ullevi Stadium, Gothenburg, Sweden. He was the Olympic Champion in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and the first man to pass the 18m mark.

7.3000m (1996)

Daniel Kipngetich Komen from Kenya holds the World Record of 7:20:67 timing in the outdoor 3000m achieved in 1996 in Rieti, Italy. He was the 1997 Olympic Champion in 5000m in Athens.

8. Javelin Throw (1996)

Jan Zelezny from Czechoslovakia holds the World Record of 98.48 m in the Javelin Throw achieved in 1996 at Jena, Germany. He was Olympic Champion three times and is considered the greatest Javelin thrower of all time.

9.1500m (1998)

Hicham El Guerrouj from Morocco holds the World Record of 3:26:00 timing in the 1500m achieved in 1998 at Stadio Olimpico, Rome, Italy He was the 2004 Olympic Champion in 1500m, and 5000m and won the silver medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics and is , widely regarded as the greatest middle-distance runner.

10.1000m (1999)

Noah Kiprono Ngeny from Kenya holds the World Record of 2:11:96 timing in the 1000m achieved in 1999 at Rieti, Italy. He was the 2000 Olympic Champion in 1500m in Sydney, Australia.
