The 2024 Summer Olympics officially branded as Paris 2024, is scheduled to take place from 26 July to 11 August 2024 in France. There is new excitement across the world for this event after the 2024 T20 Cricket World Cup held in the West Indies and United States.
The Olympics are always associated with their little cute ambassador that represents the cultural heritage of the nations, “Olympic Mascots”.
You can love it, you can hate it, but you cannot ignore it. It’s everywhere, you can experience the Paris 2024 Mascot, “Olympic Phryge”.
For more than fifty years, Hosted nations have been spreading the festival and spirit of the game through their well thoughtful Olympic Mascots.
I have gathered a list of my favorite top 10 mascots with brief fun facts. Let us dig deep and find out if you like anyone of my favorites.

1. Olympic Phryge (Paris 2024)
The 2024 Paris Olympic Games mascot is based on the traditional Phrygian cap that was used by Marianne at the time of the French Revolution and represents symbols of freedom. It is blue, white, and red as France’s tricolor flag. It is designed by Gilles Deleris.
2.Sam (Los Angeles 1984)
The 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games mascot, Sam the Eagle is the symbol of the United States. He featured many aspects of American culture. This cheerful and friendly mascot was designed by Robert Moore who was part of the Walt Disney Company.
3. Misha (Moscow 1980)
The 1980 Moscow Olympic Games mascot, Misha was a brown bear designed by Victor Alexandrovich Chizhikov. The national symbol of the Soviet Union was the bear and Misha represented the Soviet Union in space by visiting the Salyut 6 space station before the 1980 Moscow Olympics.
4.Wenlock (London 2012)
The 2012 London Olympic Games mascot, Wenlock was designed by Iris and named after the village of Much Wenlock which hosted the first unofficial Olympic Games in the 19th century. It represents drops of steel from the UK’s industrial revolution and futuristic innovation to the games.
5. Olly, Syd, and Millie (Sydney 2000)
The 2000 Sydney Olympics Games mascots, Olly the Kookaburra, Syd the Platypus, and Millie the Echidna were designed by Jozef Szekeres and Matthew Hatton. Everyone was surprised by the mascots as they were expecting Kangaroos and Koalas, however, these unique mascots brought Down Under charm, humor, and the energy of Australians to the game.
6. Miraitowa (Tokyo 2020)
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games mascot was designed by Ryo Taniguchi representing Japanese society which upholds their traditions with futuristic innovations. This superhero-inspired robot was chosen from designs by school children and illustrators throughout Japan.
7. The Fuwa (Beijing 2008)
The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games mascots were, The Fuwa, “Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying, and Nini” designed by Han Meilin. These five dolls represented different regions of China and different Olympic rings. All these five names together form a Chinese phrase that means, Beijing Welcomes You.
8. Phevos and Athena (Athens 2004)
The 2004 Athens Olympic Games mascots were designed by Spyros Gogos. These brother and sister mascots were inspired by traditional Greek dolls named after Greek gods to bring divine flair to the games.
9.Waldi (Munich 1972)
The 1972 Munich Olympic Games mascot was designed by Elena Winschermann. It represented a dachshund dog, a popular breed in Bavaria, and the marathon route was shaped like Waldi. He is known for his agility and resistance which can be related to Olympic athletes.
10. Vinicius (Rio de Janeiro 2016)
The 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games mascot was designed by Luciana Eguti and Paulo Muppet. It represents the mixture of all Brazilian animals and was named after the poet and bossa nova composer Vinicius de Moraes.
