PNG won all six matches in the qualifying round for this T20 World Cup 2024 and became one of the top merging cricketing nations. Papua New Guinea men’s national cricket team nicknamed the Barramundis, played their first T20 World Cup in 2021 and were not able to pass their first round and end at 16th position.

Assadollah Vala will lead the PNG team for the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2024 and ex-Zimbabwe keeper Tatenda Taibu will be the head coach. This will be PNG’s second appearance in the World Cup. They made their debut appearance in the 2021 World Cup edition.
