NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang introduced a Generative AI-ERA processor during the GTC conference held in San Jose on March 18. Generative AI is bringing revolution in every part of our life and with the advancement of technology, it is making our life better and better.
What is Generative AI?
In simple terms, generative artificial intelligence is an artificial intelligence capable of generating new text contents, images, or other data using algorithms. OpenAI ChatGPT is an example of generative AI.
He emphasized finding a more efficient way of computing as present accelerated computing has reached its tipping point. Moreover, the focus should be on a high scale with a low cost of computing. Event was jampacked with more than 11,000 GTC attendees gathered in person, and many tens of thousands more online -for his keynote address at Silicon Valley’s cavernous SAP Center arena.
NVIDIA Journey
Huang shared Nvidia’s journey from the start. Nvidia was founded in 1993 and within the last two decades, it has completed milestones to milestones, and in 2023 generative AI came into the picture and changed the whole game. A new market emerged from generative AI and Nvidia’s market cap exponentially raised to around $ 2.2 trillion becoming the third most valuable company in terms of market cap behind Apple and Microsoft.
“The amount of energy, networking bandwidth and the time we will save, will be extra-ordinary,” Huang said. “The future is generative, that is why this is a brand-new industry. The way we compute is fundamentally different. This new processor is for new generative AI era.”
Generative AI will change the way we work and the way we write our applications, Huang said
Huang introduced the NVIDIA Blackwell platform to unleash generative AI’s real potential on trillion-parameter large language models.
NVIDIA Blackwell
Blackwell is the largest chip physically possible is named after David Harold Blackwell, an American statistician and mathematician who made significant contributions to game theory, probability theory, information theory, and statistics.
“Blackwell’s not a chip, it’s the name of a platform,” Huang said.
Blackwell chip has 104 billion transistors and a 10TB/s Nvidia high bandwidth interface.
Blackwell is the engine of the new industrial revolution with the largest GPU(Graphic Processing Unit).
Blackwell compute node with four GPUs is the most powerful compute node ever created.
GB200 NVL72
It is computed for modern Data Centers with 72 BLACKWELL GPUs.
GB200 COMPUTE NODES, NVLINK SWITCH AND SPINE
It is a huge GPU for generative AI. It has 72 BLACKWELL GPUs connected by NVLink.
NIM (Nvidia Interference Microservice)
Huang presented NVIDIA NIM — a reference to NVIDIA inference microservices pre-trained AI Model, a new way of packaging and delivering software that connects developers with hundreds of millions of GPUs to deploy custom AI of all kinds.
Omniverse Cloud APIs
Huang introduced Omniverse Cloud APIs to deliver advanced simulation capabilities and AI will be part of our physical world.
Rather than writing software, he explained, companies will assemble AI models, give them missions, give examples of work products, review plans and intermediate results
It is a stunning event and Huang showed his vision and how AI is going to shape our future.
The press release announcing Blackwell includes endorsements from all the top companies like Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, Dell CEO Michael Dell, Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison, and Tesla and xAI CEO Elon Musk.
Blackwell is being adopted by all major companies in all domains like cloud services provider, AI companies, system and server vendors, and telcos all around the world.
