The CONCACAF Nations League reached its final stage and semifinals held on Thursday, March 21 between USMNT vs Jamaica and Mexico vs Panama.
The winner will advance to Sunday’s final.
USMNT vs Jamaica
The United States men’s national team (USMNT) has taken The CONCACAF Nations League first semifinals against Jamaica on Thursday, March 21 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The defending champion had a shocking start to their quest to win 3rd tournament in sequence. when Jamaica’s Leigh scored the first goal with his perfect header within the first minute and gave Jamaica a 1-0 lead.
That initial lead became huge for USMNT to break, and the US was on the verge of their loss till Cory Burke from Jamaica put the ball in his own goal, this was a fortunate goal for the US in the last minutes of the second half and Nations League first semifinal match went to extra time.
Haji Wright’s double strike in extra time at 96 minutes and 109 minutes gave USMNT a fortunate 3-1 win over Jamaica in the CONCACAF Nations League first semi-final.
Mexico vs Panama
The second CONCACAF Nations League semi-final was as exciting as the first semi-final.
Mexico scored their first goal in the 40th minute. Adson Alvarez from Mexico planted his header in the back of the net and gave a 1-0 lead to Mexico.
Three minutes later in the 43rd minute, Julian Quinones scored the second goal and Mexico’s lead increased to 2-0.
It looks like Mexico is in a hurry to finish the game as Orbelin Pineda increased the lead to 3-0 in the 67th minute.
It seems to be an impossible task for Panama to make a comeback from here.
Finally Mexico won 3-0 and reached to the final and meet their arch rival USA on Sunday.
From the start, both teams were favorites to meet in the 2024 CONCACAF Nations League final on Sunday, March 24 and they did not disappoint their fans.
The USA had some goosebumps in their match but Mexico comfortably won their match. Both their opponents are lower-ranked FIFA sides, Panama (No. 44) and Jamaica (No. 57).
The United States ranked 13 and higher than all four squads in the FIFA rankings, right on their heels, comes Mexico at No. 15.
Sunday’s final will be interesting as Mexico will look to take revenge for their defeat in the finals with the USA.
