Erika Zuchold (1968-1972)

Erika Zuchold from Germany was a significant German gymnast who won four silver and one bronze medal in the Olympics but was not able to win any gold in the Olympic Games, however, she won two gold in the 1970 World Championship. She was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2005.

Merlene Ottey (1980-2000)

Merlene Joyce Ottey from Jamaica was a track and field legend who represented Jamaica in six editions of the Olympic Games and Represented Slovenia in one edition, however, she won 9 medals in total (3 Silver, and 6 Bronze) but was not able to convert any of these medals into gold. She had won more Olympic medals in track & field than any woman later surpassed by Allyson Felix, still, it is unfortunate that an athlete with a world record in 200m short track with a timing of 21.87 and a remarkably long, and outstanding career failed to win an Olympic gold medal. She was called, ”Queen of the Track” due to her achievements and longevity.

Rintje Ritsma (1994-2006)

Robert Rintje Ritsma, a Netherlands-born long-track speed skater is one of the best speed skating greats who was able to win every medal except the gold. He won two silver and four bronze medals in five Winter Olympics but was not able to crack the code for the gold medal in the Olympics. He won four World Allround Championships gold and six European Allround Championships gold.

Viktor Lisitsky (1964-1968)

Viktor Nikitovich Lisitsky, a Russian gymnast has won five silver medals in the Olympics but was not able to convert one of them in gold. He won seven gold in the European Championships.

Fritz Feierabend (1936-1952)

Fritz Feierabend from Switzerland was one of the greatest athletes to never win an Olympic gold medal. He won three silver and two bronze but never won any gold in bobsledding in the 1936, 1948, and 1952 Winter Olympics. He won six gold in the World Championships.

Roald Larsen (1924-1928)

Roald Larsen from Norway was a World Champion speed skater who won two silver and four bronze medals in the Winter Olympics but was not able to win any gold. He won World Championships and European Championships gold in 1924.

Philip Edwards (1928-1936)

Philip Aaron Edwards was born in Guyana and became the most decorated track and field Olympian in Canada. He won five bronze medals and is known as “Mr. Bronze”

Philip Edwards was inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, the McGill University Sports Hall of Fame in 1997, and the Quebec Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.

Adrianus Jong (1908-1928)

Adrianus Egbert Willem “Adriaan” “Arie” de Jong from the Netherlands was the greatest fencer in his era. He won five bronze medals in the Olympic Games but never won any gold. He was close to winning the gold medal in the 1924 Olympics but lost the battle at the last minute.

Harri Kirvesniemi (1980-1998)

Harri Tapani Kirvesniemi from Finland won six bronze medals in cross-country skiing in the Winter Olympics; however, he was not able to win any of the gold. His career ended in 2001 when he was caught in a doping scandal at the World Championships.
